Joe satriani is suing the band Coldplay because he alleged that they plagerized his work. The song he thinks they stole is they're current hit ''Viva La Vida''''. His song ''If I could fly'' came out in 2005. Go on youtube and Compare the two. I think they sound very similair.Did you guys and girls hear about the Coldplay/Joe Satriani Lawsuit?
Only a few seconds of Satriani's song sounds familiar. The rest of his song sounds nothing like anything in Coldplay's.Did you guys and girls hear about the Coldplay/Joe Satriani Lawsuit?
In addition, check this out. And this.
I don't hear much similarity, to be quite honest.
hahah yeah its great! i hope he sues them for wverything they have got :P i hate coldplay
Listening to it right now, and the first minute or so has absolutely no similarity.
It's like the first few notes of Satriani's solo that sounds a little similar to the whole melody of ''Viva La Vida''I hope he doesn't win the lawsuit
I've said it once, I've said it a thousand times: they are identical. What the hell? EMI have taken down the video I use for evidence! A sign of things to come?
Only a few seconds of Satriani's song sounds familiar. The rest of his song sounds nothing like anything in Coldplay's.
Exactly. This stuff happens all the time in rock music and in worse degrees too. Much rock music is rip offs of old blues riffs. I think Satriani is trying to get some recognition he's been seeking out forever.
This was posted awhile ago and I compared the two videos and the songs are very similar.

Unless it is so blatant like Vanilla ice, these law-suits end up dead. Satriani would lose if I was on the jury.
About four seconds of it sounds the same. And that's only at one point in the song. Satriani just wants more money, it seems like. Besides, from what I'm seeing there's tons of other songs that sound exactly alike to Satriani's and Coldplay's song. It's just a coincidental sound. Or people need to sue like ****ing crazy.

Gunther is my worldwide hero. You're incredible for posting that link. :) :D :)

That is probably *the* dirtiest dirt-stash in the history of dirt-stash's.
That is pathetic. This is why I hate modern pop/rock music. It's not about the music, it's about the money and the ego.
It's similar, but it's not even close to being the same. That said... isn't imitation the sincerest form of flattery?
This isn't worth a lawsuit, or even a tiff.

SOME modern pop/rock music is like this.
There's a lot of great, genuine stuff out there.
In addition, check this out. And this.
None of the 4 motifs in those songs are identical, they all have slightly different phrasing and articulation, and even some diferent notes, meaning they are all variations of a motif (who knows which came first, maybe they were ALL taken from somewhere else), and last time I checked, it's not illegal in music to take someone else's melody you like and give it your own personal twist to make a new song.Sure it might not be the most creative way to make music (it also depends on the composer's own creativity to diferentiate his new ''version'' from the old one), but it's still perfectly valid.
