Everyone knows that high definition is better then standard DVD's, but I wasn't sure how good it would look on some of the older movies and not just the the newer special effect driven movies. I just got done watching The Road Warrior on my new Blue Ray player with a HDMI cable connection and I was kind of shocked how good that film could look. Every time I have seen it on DVD or TV it is always so grainy/dirty looking. That is partly due to it being shot in the dusty desert area, but it would also look washed out even in the clearer shots. Anyways, throughout the movie it looked so good in parts it looked like it could have been filmed this year and not almost 30 years ago. Its a shame that Blue Ray costs so much, but it does look way better then I thought. If you have seen any movies on Blue Ray, what is your opinion on it? Better then expected? Over priced and unnecessary? Favorite movie to watch on BR? I received my blue ray player as a gift, or else I would have waited longer to consider getting one. But it worked outBlue Ray is actually pretty good..
Finally, another person who calls it by the name Blue Ray and not that bootleg, shallow Blu-Ray!Blue ray is not that expensive, last time I checked. Blue Ray is actually pretty good..
if you have anything less than a 50 inch tv you won't notice the difference.
I know High Def is frekin amazing.
Yes it is. Picture is of a much higher quality than the standard DVD. Wall-e is currently my favorite blu-ray disc because it looks so clean and crisp.
i need to upgrade!
if you have anything less than a 50 inch tv you won't notice the difference.
I don't think you are right because I notice the difference even on one of the two HDTVs I have and it's 23''

1080p vs 720p on anything lower than 50'' you won't notice a difference. Besides, most broadcasting channels are currently using 720p since 1080p's bandwidth is too expensive for now.
My dad just bought a blu-ray player today. Any suggestions? I'm thinking of buying The Dark Knight with some other movies.
i see no differnce between them =P

Yes it does look great but I don't think its worth it for how much more expensive the player and discs are.
